Abstract

Latar belakang: mobilitas mahasiswa Indonesia ke Thailand menuntut kemampuan penyesuaian budaya yang tidak selalu mudah. Penelitian ini bertujuan memahami pengalaman adaptasi lintas budaya dua mahasiswa Indonesia di Thailand. Desain penelitian menggunakan fenomenologi deskriptif untuk mengungkap makna pengalaman secara mendalam dan mengaitkannya dengan teori adaptasi budaya. Proses analisis mengikuti kerangka tematik (Braun & Clarke).
Hasil memunculkan empat tema: (1) Hambatan lintas budaya—khususnya bahasa/aksara Thailand, makanan, ritme hidup, dan akses transportasi—yang memicu disorientasi awal; (2) Respons emosional berupa sedih, bingung, frustrasi, serta strategi diam untuk menjaga harmoni, yang kemudian bergeser menjadi keterbukaan dan rasa ingin tahu; (3) Proses penyesuaian diri melalui coping mandiri (mis. olahraga/hiburan), membangun jejaring dukungan, serta menyesuaikan pola makan dan gaya hidup; (4) Transformasi pribadi ditandai penerimaan, penghargaan pada nilai lokal, dan perspektif yang lebih inklusif. Temuan menegaskan bahwa adaptasi bersifat dinamis: tekanan budaya dapat menjadi pemicu pertumbuhan psikologis ketika tersedia ruang aman dan dukungan sosial yang memadai bagi mahasiswa internasional.
Implikasi: institusi perlu memperkuat layanan dukungan bahasa, jejaring sosial, dan ruang ekspresi emosi lintas budaya.
