Abstract
Choking is a dangerous condition caused by the presence of a foreign object in the respiratory tract, leading to difficulty in breathing and potentially resulting in death if immediate first aid is not provided. Managing a choking child greatly depends on the knowledge and experience of parents. Efforts to improve mothers' knowledge in handling choking incidents can be carried out through health education using audiovisual media. This study aims to determine whether health education using audiovisual media influences parental knowledge in managing choking in children. The study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 37 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The level of knowledge was measured before and after the educational intervention using a questionnaire on managing choking in children. Data analysis was conducted using the paired t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that health education using audiovisual media significantly improved parents' knowledge of handling choking incidents in children. Parents are expected to acquire knowledge about managing choking to provide timely first aid for their children.
